Tom Smith was educated at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and in 2010 received a Masters degree with distinction. During his time there Tom was a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, and won the Governors Recital Prize for Brass along with the Prize for Excellence in Brass. Tom has featured on Radio Scotland as a soloist and plays bass trombone regularly with professional orchestras including the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, and Scottish Opera. As a tutor he has worked with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland (Junior and Senior Orchestras), West of Scotland Schools Concert Band, Fife Youth Orchestra, and conducts the Kirkshaws Community Youth Brass Band. As a commercial artist and session player he has worked with many top names, including “Belle and Sebastian”, “Idlewild”, “Admiral Fallow”, and “God Help the Girl”. His own music has been featured in a display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
