Easter Hockey Camp

Another action packed, fun three days of hockey has flashed by. Not quite the sunshine of last year but everyone came with a good set of waterproofs and a determination to learn as much as they could. Mrs Stephen coached our youngest players and enjoyed both indoor and outdoor hockey. They all loved having extra help from Alex T, a former pupil of Craigclowan, and Charlie W during the week. Mrs Thomson had a blast with the next group. They had all played hockey before and their determination to score goals was amazing. Every one of them kept running and passing right through till the last minute of the camp. Ciaran C was kept on his toes with our third group. This was his first time coaching at Craigclowan and he presently plays his hockey for Grove Menzieshill. Having a group of players who listened carefully and tried hard to do the right thing made his day really enjoyable. Group 4 was lucky to have Ewan F as their coach. He was particularly impressed with the tackling and footwork of his players. Being a coach at Hutchesons Grammar School during term time and playing for Clydesdale Western certainly ensured he had plenty of experience to challenge this promising group of youngsters. Finally, our most experienced group was coached by Jamie C who plays for the very successful Grove Menzieshll indoor team and coaches St Andrews University. Knowing the majority of these players already helped him to push each player on to the next level. Although his group have already played for a few years, he was keen to be sure that they learned that being well disciplined at listening carefully and training hard were the key to progressing on into the Midlands Squads in the years ahead. He has ably assisted by John S, another former Craigclowan pupil, who is currently training with the Scottish U16 squad. All 55 players and 7 coaches enjoyed the camp. Remember to sign up quickly with the school office for the Summer Hockey Camp from Monday 15 - Thursday 17 August. No doubt it will be a popular sell-out again!  Many thanks to all who took part.
