Since our return on Monday, we have spent time as a school community revelling in the huge pleasure that is derived from being together.  The start of term has coincided with a period of beautiful settled weather so we have consciously spent as much time outdoors under the bright blue skies enjoying each other's presence as possible.

In my assembly on Monday I spoke of the importance of kindness - I reminded the children that it is a very genuine superpower and, even better, it is one of the very few things in life that is not rationed or limited in its supply.  Kindness, when applied liberally, has a profound impact on the happiness of others and so, because it is available in infinite quantities, we can afford to be liberal in how we spread it around.  I am delighted that our children have taken this on board and put it into practise.  Of course, as with most things, to really be good at something we need to do it regularly and make it a habit, indeed, as Aristotle said, “we are what we repeatedly do.  Excellence therefore is not an act but a habit”.  So I have and will be regularly reminding the children that we have a never ending supply of kindness and that we must take every opportunity to be generous with it - after all, it costs us nothing.
