Recently I’ve been thinking about how much we value food here at school.  The world we live in has changed and sitting down to breakfast, lunch or dinner is no longer such an easy thing to do.  Often families rush off to work and school in the mornings, grabbing some fruit or eating porridge on the run, thus missing an opportunity to eat and spend time together.  There is a saying that ‘the family which eats together, stays together’ and I think that this is very true.  Indeed, the fact that we eat together each lunchtime and in a ‘family dining’ style is something which I believe is a fundamentally important part of our community spirit here at Craigclowan.

Of course, in the final week of the Winter Term we have the extra special occasion of our Christmas lunch.  As ever, this was a joyous time with huge amounts of food, music and laughter shared amongst the very best of friends.  Once again, the kitchen staff turned out a tremendous spread with all the trimmings; there were crackers, hats, jokes and singing and every part of this worked to bring us together as a vibrant community.

I know that over the coming weeks many of you will be taking the time to pause and share meals together with your family and friends.  I can only hope that your celebrations are filled with as much laughter and fun as ours was.

Merry Christmas!

John F Gilmour
