At Craigclowan we firmly believe that great facilities and top class teaching are not enough to create an outstanding education.

Of course we have fabulous facilities, small class sizes, outstanding specialist teachers and a carefully thought out curriculum with real academic rigour. Such things are admirable, but we aim to provide more.

We believe that an education should develop a tangible sense of meaning, purpose and wonder while developing open and enquiring minds.

We value imagination, individualism and variety and we want the children in our care to fulfil their talents wherever they lie.

At Craigclowan, we seek to foster a lifetime's love of learning through a rich and varied curriculum using the best teaching in a stimulating environment.

The Craigclowan Difference

There are many things which contribute to make a Craigclowan education so special. Amongst these are:

  • Small classes – our average class size is currently 14. Our largest class is 20 and our smallest class is ten
  • Ratio of teachers to pupils less than 1-9
  • A seamless step from Pre-school to Form 1, including time spent in our Transition Class during the Summer Term
  • We get to know your child well, not just their name but their personality and character too
  • Many teachers are Secondary trained so they are specialists in their subject area rather than being general class teachers
  • Specialist teaching facilities to support a broad curriculum – including a fully equipped science lab, separate ICT room and mobile laptop trolley, teaching spaces equipped with smartboards and projectors, specialist Art and DT room, specialist music classrooms with class sets of keyboards and other instruments, a dedicated library and a cookery room
  • Each child in Forms 6 - 8 has their own Chromebook and a class set is available to each year group in the lower years
  • Top class sports facilities including a full sized all weather Astro Turf pitch, a large indoor sports hall, several large grass pitches, indoor cricket nets and our own dry ski slope
  • A huge range of extra-curricular activities – there really is something for everyone
  • Regular opportunities for every child to participate in sporting teams
  • Consistently, all our pupils are successful at reaching the senior schools of their choice and leave feeling delighted in their many achievements
  • Guidance and advice to help you choose your child’s senior school – we have the knowledge and experience to advise you in that important process
  • Dedicated Forest School teachers and woodland area
  • High quality feedback including three written reports a year, parents evenings and an open door policy
  • Our pupils have a voice. Through the active Pupil Council they contribute with enthusiasm and passion towards making their school community a better place
  • Your input is welcome too. We believe that all feedback is good feedback so we value your suggestions and observations
