Under 13A Boys Hockey Craigclowan v Perth Academy/High School

(21.02.18) The under 13 boys travelled to Perth Academy on Wednesday, for a match against a mixed team from the Academy and Perth High School. Having not played an 11 aside game since the 4-1 win vs Dundee High School earlier this month, the boys were keen to get going again on a full pitch.

It was clear from the start that this was going to be a challenging game, with the majority of the opposition being a year older than the Craigclowan boys, and there were several club hockey players amongst the composite team. However, our boys rose to the challenge and gave a good performance, and the game developed into a well-matched affair. We did take some time to settle and if there was a learn early on, it was to let the ball do the work and have less running from some of our boys. It was clear that they would tire towards the end of the match. Some good play though, and eventually a ball played high from our defensive end, found Adam in the attacking 25, and he nicely got around some defenders and scored a goal. In response, the opposition pressed high and they too found the goal and the score line was 1-1 at half time.

The second half saw some better hockey, and our younger players of Jamie, Ferdie and Teo did a lot of good running which in turn created some good leads. Some short corners were awarded to both sides in the second half although neither side converted, and the final whistle blew with a draw of 1-1.

A great game though, and good practice for the match against Glenalmond next week, where again we will meet an older team.

Well done boys, and to Harry who stepped in for Angus this week. Many thanks also to the visiting support.
