Under 12 Boys Rugby Tournament at Barnard Castle

(24.09.17) They say that ‘what goes on tour stays on tour’, but if we fully committed to that classic saying, this report would be a little light on detail!

Even though the lads were only away for a day and a half, they enjoyed an action-packed Saturday evening with our wonderful hosts and an even busier day of rugby on the Sunday.

The first round of competition was tough as we played three games against some very strong opposition (St Olaves, Sedbergh and Hymers). There was some determined attack on show from the Craigclowan boys; most notably against Sedbergh, but our defensive line often got drawn towards which left us exposed out wide. Even though the results didn’t go our way, there were many brave tackles put in throughout these encounters which was great to see.

The afternoon session saw us play against Darlington, Durham and Bradford. We played some excellent rugby in these matches, scoring loads of tries and winning two out of three of games.

Bradford, in the final match, proved a step too far as we lost 3-2 and just missed out on the bowl.

Every player who took to the field gave their best as they represented the school with pride. It was fantastic to see the players lift their level during the day and I have no doubt each player has improved thanks to this experience. Well done, lads!

I would like to say a special thanks to all at Barnard Castle School who made us feel so welcome and so well fed! We hope to pay a visit there in the near future.
