Scottish Primary Schools’ 31st Cross-Country Championships Kirkcaldy

(21.04.18) On Saturday 21st April, twelve excited Craigclowan cross country runners travelled to the Scottish Primary Schools’ 31st Cross-country Championships, which took place in the grounds of Kirkcaldy High School.

There were just over 1,200 children at the event, representing 154 schools.

Saying that this event was a humbling experience, is an understatement: Each age group (P6 and P7) of boys’ and girls’ was split into two races of about 150 children each, with schools divided in alphabetical order.

The organisation was first class and air temperature was unexpectedly hot for the runners who have been training in near zero temperatures over the last few months.

The course offered enough ascents and descents, as well as loops and straights to keep the runners interested, whilst challenging everyone’s balance, concentration, speed and stamina.

The best Craigclowan performance was Jamie L placing 13th in a field of 156 runners.

Sasha M, Fig G, Lois W, Freddie L, Josh A, Hopkin S, Ben E, Jamie E, Alyssa W, Charlotte F and Olivia J can also be extremely proud of their respective achievement in such a prestigious event.

Runners and parents alike, agreed that dipping a toe in the bigger pond has been an inspiring and valuable experience for all. There are a lot of talented and fit athletes in Scotland and we shall ensure that our Craigclowan children can stand with their heads high on the start line, and continue to be inspired.
