Rounders Match Reports in Week Beginning 12.06.17

(12.06.17) Under 9 Girls Rounders Craigclowan A&B v Fettes

Under 9A

A blustery afternoon set the scene for the under 9 first rounders match which was away to Fettes.

With the recent awful weather, it had been a few weeks since we had practised rounders at games time so we arrived with plenty of time to have a good warm up and refresher of the rules.

The Craigclowan ‘A’ team started well in bat, although Fettes’ quick fielding made it tricky to get points on the board.

When Craigclowan took to field they had a few panic moments with squiffy throwing and uncertainty which Fettes capitalised on to keep a steady tally building.

The second innings was much more competitive. Craigclowan continued to bat well and started to turn their good hits into points which visibly lifted the team.

In the field their throwing and catching was more accurate and they started to get the hang of stumping people out and moving the ball between posts.

Fettes were clearly a more experienced side but the Craigclowan girls will get there with more practice and match experience.

A great first effort and lot of positives to take forward to our second match next week against Cargilfield.

Under 9B

On their first rounders outing, Craigclowan B won the toss and requested to field so they could observe the opposition and give themselves a target to chase.

Fettes got off to a great start in the first innings scoring 3.5 rounders to our 1.5. We knew what we had to do, so, after a few deep breaths and a calming of the nerves, we managed to restrict their scoring in the second innings. Thanks to some big hits and speedy running we came away with a well- deserved win.

Well done girls! But this is just the beginning and we still have a lot work to do but you should take a great deal of confidence from this winning debut.

Final score:

Craigclowan A.  4 - 16.5 Fettes               Craigclowan B. 7- 5 Fettes

(12.06.17) Under 10 Girls Rounders: Craigclowan A&B v Fettes

U10A v Fettes

The Under 10 A team were very nervous at the start if the game and silly mistakes gave a strong Fettes team a good early lead. The score was 6.5 to 2. In the second innings, our girls played really well. They fielded mush better and didn’t panic as much. There batting was also stronger and I was very proud of their improvement. They only allowed Fettes to score 3.5 rounders and we scored 5. It was a lovely friendly fixture and all our girls came away happy making new friends.

Final score: 10-7

U10B v Fettes

The Under 10Bs had a nail biting start to this, the first of their matches this season. In the first innings, our batting was strong with both Yi and Auriol scoring 2 rounders each.  Fettes struggled slightly when they first went in to bat.  Shula B bowled well despite the strong winds and our fielding was relatively tight. In the second innings, Fettes upped their game and began to notch up the half rounders whilst unfortunately we were not quite able to match our initial batting success. It all came down to one half a rounder in the end with Fettes scoring 11 and a half and our girls 11.  Lots of positives should be taken from the match as the girls learned from their mistakes and put into play new fielding strategies. Better luck next week girls.

Well done Under 10s. There is a lot of potential within the year group!

(14.06.17) Under 11 Girls Rounders Craigclowan v Riley

It had been a while since the Under 11s had played rounders with exams, half term and activities so it was a lovely change to head out onto the field and play a game of rounders.

We started batting and after a shaky start, steadily built up a few rounders, although it got a bit tight towards the end with seven players out and five balls remaining!  Our first fielding innings was strong with some excellent catches and passing between posts to get players out.  The second innings of batting started strong, a combination of good hitting and determined running which put the Riley defence under pressure.  The second fielding innings we had a wee shuffle around of positions which took a little while to bed into but once settled they had more clean catches and some switched on fielding.

The wee break has obviously reignited their rounders flare and we are ready and raring for our last match against Cargilfield next week.

Final Score:

Craigclowan 12.5 – 7 Riley

(14.06.17) Under 13 B Girls Rounders Craigclowan v Riley

On a muggy Wednesday afternoon, the Under 13 B girls played Riley at home.

We lost the toss and went into bat first. The batters a little exhausted stood quietly, waiting for their turn. Each girl tried hard to connect with the ball but their nerves got the better of them and they only scored 0.5 rounders.

They then went into field where they began to come to life and limited Riley to 1 rounder in the first innings. With spirits beginning to rise, the team gained confidence went on to score 5.5 rounders. Riley then went into bat and responded with scoring a further 1.5 rounder.

The girls should be proud of their efforts and will hopefully take confidence from the improved second innings. Well done girls!

Final Score:

Craigclowan 6 –  2.5 Riley
