Match Report: Under 13A Boys Rugby Craigclowan v St. Mary’s

(29.11.17) An emotional Craigclowan team took to the pitch at St Mary’s with the Form 8 boys knowing that this would be their last ever outing for their school on the rugby field. The lads knew that a good performance was the only thing that was required and they certainly delivered.

The match was played at a frantic pace and the quality of handling was a pleasure to witness throughout. For the majority of the game, the forwards cleared rucks with energy and the backs looked dangerous with ball in hand. The first half was a tense affair with two tries each for the teams, but the hosts went in at half time with a slender lead, having converted both of their tries compared to one from Craigclowan.

The effort in the second half remained from Craigclowan, as they fought for the ball and tried their best to carry hard against an organised defence. St Mary’s, to their credit, exploited some gaps in our defence to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Craigclowan didn’t give up and managed to claw back a try of their own. Before full time, St Mary’s scored their third of the half and put the result beyond doubt. The final score saw the hosts win 19-10, but Craigclowan pushed them every step of the way and every boy who took to the pitch in the sky blue should be proud of their efforts and look forward to their next match – wherever it may be.

Well done, lads.
