Rugby Match Reports: Week Beginning 13.11.17

Under 13 Boys Craigclowan v Riley

(15.11.17) In a closely fought contest between two determined teams, the score was even after the final whistle as Craigclowan and Riley drew 12-12 with both sides scoring two tries and one conversion.

There was energy and endeavour from both sides, as Craigclowan enjoyed the majority of possession over the course of the game. There were many impressive runs and some sound handling, but we struggled to secure quick enough ball to really stretch the solid Riley defence out wide.

It was an exciting game of rugby played with good intensity, but the boys in sky blue were rightly frustrated, as was their coach, to come away with a draw. Some lapses in concentration cost us dearly, but some valuable lessons were learned after letting the lead slip.

Well done to both teams for putting on an exciting show for all those who came along to support.

Under 9 Rugby St Leonards Tournament

(15-11-17) The Under 9 rugby team travelled to St Leonards on Wednesday for the annual Under 9 rugby tournament in St Andrews.

Our first match was against Loretto. We ran well, looked to pass, off-load and played good attacking running rugby. We won the game in a convincing manner.

Our second match against was hard fought against Lathallan. Both teams had a real go at each other. In the end missed tackles proved costly.

Our third game was against Fettes. They proved to be a very strong and skilful side who were always very dangerous on the break. The game flowed from end to end and both teams scored some good tries. Again, missed tackles proved costly and the boys suffered another defeat.

Our last match of the day was against Ardvreck. The boys dug deep and after good dynamic running, excellent awareness of space and good supporting play, the team won this very exciting encounter.

Overall, it was pleasing to see the boys playing a good brand of attacking rugby. Defensive duties are the big area that need attention and focus. Hopefully the boys can look to make improvements as we head to our final fixture next week!
