In assembly this morning we talked about kindness and the age old Christian message of loving your neighbour. It fascinates me that such a seemingly simple message can be so nuanced and, ultimately, difficult to achieve. Of course, we all find it easy to be kind and loving to those who are kind and loving to us (unless we’ve had a truly awful day, in which case it can be hard to be kind and loving to anyone!). However, as with many seemingly simple things, the devil is in the detail...the challenge we are given is not just to be kind to those who are kind to us and loving to those who are loving to us. No, the challenge is in fact to also be kind to those who are unkind to us and loving to those who are not loving to us in return. And this is tough...but here at Craigclowan we don’t shy away from tough, quite the opposite, we confront it head on. So, my challenge this morning to the children was to try and live out this difficult message, to truly love our neighbours.
